About
After studying Textile Design and Fashion, Rena B. Levine worked in the textile industry in the Garment Center creating patterns for fabrics for over a decade. Her experience in the world of textiles has given her a keen sense for color and composition as well as an extensive material knowledge. She also has worked in the world of Interior Design for many years which has lent her a deep awareness of how art fits into a domestic environment.
In her artwork, she experiments with watercolors imbued with substances such as alcohol and salt, creating chemical reactions that give way to unique and dynamic patterns. Many of her artworks are made by creating multiple different paintings and weaving them into one another. Her color choices are inspired by the nature that surrounds her in her home in Connecticut. The rigid geometry of the cut paper creates a tension with the fluid marks of watercolor paint, creating complex yet understated compositions.
